Picks of The Day: CBB and NBA

Had a decent little day yesterday, going 6-4. A few close losses and one big miss with Nebraska. Creighton was incredible from the floor at 52%.

There’s only four NBA games and six in all of college basketball today, so we’re running with a real limited slate, but managed to find a few worth playing.

Iowa (+7.5) over IOWA ST.

The only college game worth watching tonight, but it should be a really good one. Iowa and Iowa State people hate each other and this is a battle of two top-20 teams in the country if you like to use ratings like kenpom.com or Sagarin. Which I do and which is why I like Iowa to cover the spread here. The Hawkeyes are a veteran bunch and have played five teams in the top 100, compared to Iowa State’s two. The Cyclones best competition thus far was Colorado, which is just barely a top-50 team.  Iowa matches up fairly well with Iowa State and they’ve got the personnel to keep up. I think they’ve got a decent shot to win this game outright, so I’m taking the points.

BULLS (+1.5) over Clippers

Bulls started as 1.5 point favorites, so you’re on the right side of this if you’re taking them now. Clippers are on a back-to-back and they’re 2-3 so far on the second game on a B2B, going 0-2 on the road. Those two losses were by double digits to the Suns and Trail Blazers. They’ve been banged up all year and it’s made them really inconsistent. The Bulls are a much better team at home so far, going 7-3 compared to their 4-5 mark on the road. Take Chicago at home.

THUNDER-Hawks under 211.5

This is the Hawks seventh back-to-back already this year and so far their games have gone under four times on the second game. This is the second highest total in a Hawks game so far this season. Their highest came when these two teams matched up a couple of weeks ago and they totaled 206. Atlanta’s games have hit the under in their past four games and Thunder games have done the same in seven of their past nine. Both of these teams are pretty efficient offensively, but they rank 10th and 20th in pace. I hate unders, but this is one of those times that it makes too much sense.
