Northern Illinois (+7) over TOLEDO
NIU has had a great year and they’re off to a hot start in conference play with an 11 point win over Ohio and a 17 point win over Eastern Michigan, two of the better teams in the MAC. They’ve only lost twice this season: road games against Missouri and Ohio State. Toledo is 10-5 on the year and their “best” loss so far is to Oakland by 12. Just last week they lost by 18 to Ball State. The Rockets are at home, but Northern Illinois has been the better team so far this year. FWIW, NIU won at Toledo last year as 11 point dogs.
Akron (pick) over CENTRAL MICHIGAN
I don’t really get this line, because Akron is a MUCH better team and the clear favorite to win the MAC. Their only losses this year are road games to Villanova and Green Bay. CMU is 8-7 and they just lost by 19 to Eastern Michigan at home last week. The Zips have won the last eight games in the series and have covered seven of those games.
KANSAS STATE-Texas Tech under 136.5
These teams have gone under in eight straight meetings and 136.5 is higher than any O/U they’ve had in that stretch. K-State is at home and plays a below average pace. These are two top-20 defenses with two slightly above average offenses.
EVANSVILLE (-16.5) over Drake
The Purple Aces are going to shred Drake’s 317th ranked defense. Drake has won one game since November.
New Mexico (+5.5) over UNLV
These are two pretty evenly matched teams. I’ll take the one that hasn’t lost five of six and just fired their coach.
KNICKS (pick) over Celtics
Biggest reason I like this game is the performance of both teams over the past five games. The Knicks are 4-1 SU and 5-0 ATS. They’ve beat the Hawks twice, the Heat, and the Bucks and lost by one point on the road against San Antonio. Meanwhile, the Celtics are 1-4 SU and ATS. It’s a fairly even matchup to begin with and I’ll definitely ride with the hotter team playing at home giving zero points.
Thunder-WOLVES over 209
Wolves have been hitting a lot of unders lately, but the Thunder are going to dictate this game and they’ve hit seven out of eight overs lately. Their lowest total in that stretch was 206, but that came against the notoriously slow Grizzlies. OKC has been averaging a 219 total over the past ten games with both their scoring and opponents’ scoring up during that stretch.
