Had a tough couple days last week, so I went to just tweeting out the picks and it worked for a few days, going 11-1 from Sunday to Wednesday. Thursday didn’t go well, so I’m back to writing. If you can’t tell, I’m extremely superstitious.
Minnesota (Pk) over ILLINOIS
The Gophers can’t lose forever and as bad as their league record looks right now, they haven’t been playing all that poor of basketball. You can’t say the same for the Illini.
Ultimately, the Gophers are still a pretty good defensive team and I don’t think Illinois has enough weapons to expose them. Minnesota just has more guys to make plays if this one is still close late.
Utah (-3) over STANFORD
Stanford has one win over a Top 100 team and that was over Seton Hall back in November. The closest they’ve come since is a 7 point loss two days ago at home against a Colorado team that is 3-7 in the league. Utah hasn’t lost to a team outside of the Top 100 all year. I don’t think they start today.
SOUTHERN MISS (+4.5) over Western Kentucky
I turned my back on the Golden Eagles after they got smoked by UAB and they made me pay for it by beating Marshall at home by 15. Never again.
If you look at just conference play numbers, this game should be a pick ’em or USM as a slight favorite.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN (-8) over Louisiana Monroe
Monroe has gone 1-12 away from Fant Ewing with that one win coming against Coppin State, one of the five worst teams in the country. GSU is in the running for the league title and they’re coming off back-to-back road losses, including one of their worst performances of the year at Troy. With a few days off, I think they’ll be focused and ready to take it to the Warhawks.
UTEP (+11) over MTSU
The Miners have won five of six after basically looking like dogshit for two months. Why the turnaround? They’ve been the best defense in C-USA play, which will be important tonight because the Blue Raiders have had the best offense. Dangerous game for MTSU. They’re 10-0 in the league and they’re going on the road to play a really confident group at the moment, one that just beat another of those that were contending for the conference title in UAB.
UC Irvine (-3.5) over LONG BEACH ST.
Looks like Luke Nelson is back. Combine that with the Eaters coming off two losses and the week off to practice, it seems like a bad recipe for a Beach team that’s been disappointing all year long and doesn’t have their best big to deal with the UCI frontline.
Season: 103-100-1 (50.7%)
